It’s Bike Week in the City of Charlottetown and Friday, June 21 is Bike to Work and School Day, which encourages students and employees to bike to work instead of travelling by car.

This year’s Bike to Work and School Day is being held in honor of Josh and Oliver Underhay. Josh was an advocate for improving cycling infrastructure so more people could experience the benefits and joys of cycling. He was an avid cycling commuter, who loved cycling with his two sons, Oliver and Linden.

The public is invited to stop by the Cycling Pop-Up at the Charlottetown Farmers Market (100 Belvedere Avenue) on Wednesday, June 19, for assistance with cycling route planning for commuting, cycling safety, information, and giveaways. The Pop-Up will be at the Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Friday, June 21, the public is invited to join in a group cycling ride departing at 7:45 a.m. from the Charlottetown Farmers Market heading into downtown Charlottetown. This is a great option for participants who are not able to bike from their residence, but want to participate in Bike to Work and School Day. Vehicles can be parked in the Charlottetown Farmers Market lot for those who are participating in the group ride.

As part of Bike Week, the Sustainability Department is also pleased to announce the release of the new cycling map. The new map features recommended routes, points of interest, cycling safety information, discounts at local stores and more. A hardcopy of the map is available in the Tourism Department at City Hall (199 Queen Street) and it is also available online at:

Share a bike related photo during bike week using the hashtag "#IBikeCharlottetown" for a chance to win awesome prize packs. Prize packs include: everything you need for a Downtown Date Night, Family Fun Day, a night out with friends, and more! Make sure the photo is set to public. Contest runs on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Contest entry deadline is June 22.

Prior to Friday, June 21, be sure to visit and submit a guess in the Mayor’s Bike Challenge with Hot 105.5 for a chance to win a brand new bicycle from Outer Limit Sports.
