Traffic Advisory: Delays on Fitzroy Street

Traffic Advisory: Delays on Fitzroy Street and Temporary Closure of Fitzroy Parkade
Posted on 05/04/2020
The City of Charlottetown and Charlottetown Area Development Corporation (CADC) would like to advise the public that the Fitzroy Parkade expansion project is expected to begin on Monday, May 4.

During the first phase of work, all parking stall lines will be repainted, resulting in a full closure of the parkade beginning Wednesday, May 6. Monthly parkers that are displaced during this closure will be accommodated at the Queen and Pownal Parkades, or can access metered parking spots throughout the downtown core. The line painting is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 13, at which point the parkade will open again to monthly pass holders.

During the expansion project, the parkade will only be open to monthly pass holders and there will be no daily or hourly allowances. Beginning on Monday, May 4, Kent Street, between Great George Street and Prince Street, will be reduced to one lane traffic. This lane closure will remain in effect until the completion of the project, which is anticipated to be the end of July.

A reminder that for the month of May, all fees have been waived at the Queen, and Pownal parkades. Metered parking is also available to the public for anyone who needs to be downtown for work or picking up essential items. Charlottetown Police Services are currently not enforcing for time-related meter violations; however, commissionaires are still patrolling and responding to any safety related parking issues.
