Cautious Re-Opening of Some Outdoor Facilities

Cautious Re-Opening of Some Outdoor Facilities
Posted on 05/08/2020
The City of Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department is cautiously re-opening some of its outdoor facilities that closed in March due to the advice and restrictions from Public Health authorities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Parks and Recreation Department will monitor use and if the PEI Public Health requirements are not being respected, the facilities will be closed again until additional restrictions are lifted by the Chief Public Health Officer.

The facilities that have re-opened, effective May 8, include the City’s Ball Hockey Rink, basketball courts, and skateboard park. Only five people are permitted to use these outdoor facilities at one time and physical distancing of two metres (or approximately six feet) must be maintained. Sporting equipment, such as basketballs, must not be shared between members of different households, which limits activities requiring equipment to those from the same household.

If the restrictions are being followed at these facilities, the Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department will consider re-opening other facilities, such as tennis courts and sports fields. At this time, and until further notice, City playground structures remain closed.
