Deadline Approaching for Tree Planting Challenge

Deadline Approaching for Business Tree Planting Challenge
Posted on 08/31/2020
The City of Charlottetown’s 7th annual Business Tree Planting Challenge will take place on Thursday, September 24 at West Royalty Community Centre. To participate, businesses need to pre-register. Registration is due by 4 p.m. on Friday, September 4.

The Business Tree Planting Challenge is an opportunity for businesses to show their environmental commitment and offset their paper use by planting trees in the community. It is also a great team-building exercise.

Businesses interested in taking part must provide the City with an estimate of the number of sheets of paper they used in the past year. The City will calculate the approximate number of trees they need to plant to compensate for this paper use. The equation, which is cited by, is based on one tree producing 8,333 sheets of paper.

Participating businesses will cover the cost of their trees at a price of approximately $10/tree as well as a flat $50 fee to cover the cost of mulch and compost. All trees will be PEI native species ordered from local tree suppliers. In addition to the cost of the trees, businesses must provide volunteers to plant their trees.

All COVID-19 related regulations set by the Chief Public Health Office will be followed in executing this event. Considerations include:
• To participate, businesses need to pre-register for a timeslot, each having no more than 20 participants (options are 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.; 10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.; or 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.).
• Contact information will be required for all participants.
