It’s time to bundle up and get outside for winter activities

Free public skating is now open at all of the city’s 12 outdoor rinks, along with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter walking trails. While outdoor activities are lower risk than indoor activities, residents are reminded to continue to follow COVID-19 guidelines including physical distancing.

Outdoor Public Skating
As a reminder, all skating participants are required to wear a CSA approved helmet. Registration is not required, however capacity limits are in place for all rinks. The capacity limits are posted online and at each rink. It is also recommended that all participants wear a mask.

Outdoor rink locations:

  • Centennial Park – to open (today) February 1 at 5pm
  • Elmer MacFadyen Memorial Recreational Complex (MacRae Drive)
  • Founders Hall Greenspace (Lower Prince Street)
  • Gordie Griffin Multi-Sport Facility (199 Patterson Drive)
  • Highfield Park (Highfield Avenue)
  • J. Frank McAulay (Spring Lane)

City staff will continue to maintain the outdoor rinks as long as weather conditions continue to be suitable. The status of the rinks is available online at charlottetown.ca/skating and will be updated Monday through Friday.

Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Two cross-country ski and snowshoe trails are open for the season. The trails are located at Victoria Park and Belvedere Golf Club. Both trails are groomed and approximately 3km in length. The trail map is available online at charlottetown.ca/winterrecreation. Using the trails is free and registration is not required.

For cross-country skiing, participants are required to use their own equipment.

For snowshoeing, participants can use their own equipment or rent (free of charge) from two city-run locations.
