Protest Re-Scheduled To February 12
Posted on 02/10/2022
The City of Charlottetown would like to notify businesses and residents that a convoy-style protest, originally expected on February 5, has been re-scheduled and is currently planned for Saturday, February 12. The protest is expected to begin in the John Yeo Drive area at 1:00 pm. The anticipated route is to travel southbound on University Avenue and Great George Street to the Charlottetown Cenotaph. From there, protestors will turn left onto Grafton Street before dispersing at the Grafton Street and Riverside Drive intersection. Charlottetown Police Services expect the protest could take several hours to complete the route, which could cause traffic blockages along University Avenue for the duration of the protest, especially between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Charlottetown Police Services have been in contact with protest organizers and are working diligently to inform residents and businesses along the proposed route of possible impacts, including additional site visits to businesses and residents over the next two days. An increased police presence along the route and in the Downtown core on the day of the protest will be on hand. This will include traffic teams at every major intersection along the expected route in order to ensure the safety of businesses, residents, and travelers in the affected areas.
The safety of Charlottetown residents and businesses remains the number one priority of the City Corporation and Charlottetown Police Services. The situation remains fluid, and the City of Charlottetown and Charlottetown Police Services will continue to monitor and inform the public of any changes that may arise.
