Seasonal Road Repairs Now Underway

Pothole repair work has begun across the City

The City of Charlottetown would like to advise residents that pothole repairs on streets are now underway. The repair work will take place on an as needed basis (weather permitting) and is expected to continue through the winter and spring seasons.

Streets will remain open as the work is done, however residents may experience minimal delays of a few minutes, while holes are quickly cleaned out and filled.

For the duration of the winter months, a pothole may reappear shortly after a repair due to the limitations of the materials currently available and until the seasonal asphalt plant reopens later this year. In the meantime, crews will continue to monitor and add additional repair material as needed.

Asphalt repair work is done annually by the City to help prevent water from getting under the asphalt and to mitigate larger cracks, pot holes and major street rehabilitation. Repairs involve cleaning out the pothole of dirt and debris, tacking, then refilling it with hot-mix asphalt. This process may leave tiny pieces of asphalt on the repaired streets, which will be swept off by the City’s street sweepers as soon as possible.

Please use extra caution when travelling through areas where road repairs are taking place. The City greatly appreciates everyone’s patience as we work to maintain our roads. We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause.
