In-person signature events and sport event hosting starting back next week
The City of Charlottetown is pleased to announce the return of major festivals, signature events and the sport hosting that we know and love. To start, next week the City is hosting the USPORTS Women’s National Hockey Championship and the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship. Later this month, Charlottetown will also host the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
“After two challenging years, this announcement marks an important milestone in our reopening efforts, which very closely impacts the events and tourism sector here in Charlottetown,” said Charlottetown Mayor, Philip Brown. “The City has been working tirelessly with event organizers and CPHO to ensure a successful path forward for the return to major events this year.”
Currently, the 2022 secured sport event hosting calendar includes:
- Youth Pan American Archery Championships Selection Camp: April
- Wheelchair Basketball Junior National Championship: June
- PGA TOUR Canada PEI Open: June/July
- Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships: July
- STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Canadian Championship: July
- STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Canadian Champions Trophy: July
- U18 & U20 National Flag Football Championships: August
- U16 Eastern Flag Football Championships: August
- Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships - U-15 Cup: October
The City’s annual festivals and signature events will also return, including but not limited to:

- Island Tides Yoga & Wellness Festival: June
- Andrews Hockey Growth Programs’ International Hockey Showcase: June/July
- PEI Pride Festival: July
- Old Home Week: August
- Gold Cup Parade: August

- PEI International Shellfish Festival | Feast and Frolic: September
- PEI Fall Flavours Festival: September/October

“Events create vibrancy in our city, not only for residents but visitors as well,” said Councillor Julie McCabe, Chair of the City’s Economic Development, Tourism and Event Management Committee. “I can’t help but to be excited about the many events that will be held in Charlottetown this year and the significant impact they will have on both the Charlottetown and Island.”
The City’s Events and Tourism departments continue to work hard to attract and secure major events for Charlottetown. As additional events are confirmed, the City will share more news and announcements in the coming months – stay tuned for exciting updates.
While the pandemic has had a profound impact on Charlottetown, the return to in-person signature events is another positive step forward in post-pandemic recovery. The City’s event attraction and hosting strategies will continue to guide the ability to successfully host, execute and create lasting legacies for our community.
