Request for Annexation Approved

Marshfield Area Property Owners Request for Annexation Approved
Posted on 06/02/2022
Existing emergency services to remain in place until further notice

In response to some Marshfield area property owners, the City Charlottetown has been approved to proceed with a municipal restructuring to changes its boundaries. The request to expand the city boundary relates to seven Marshfield area properties (approximately 116.30 aces) that do not currently have a local government or municipal services.

The municipal restructuring request was reviewed by the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) and subsequently approved by the Province. The annexation approval is effective June 1, 2022.

In the coming months, the seven properties (six parcels and one portion of a parcel) will be supported by municipal services such as fire and police services, planning and development, public works and water and sewer services. Municipal property taxes, however, will be transitioned over the next four years beginning in 2023.

To help provide a smooth transition, an implementation plan for municipal services is currently being developed by the City of Charlottetown. Area property owners will continue to be kept informed as this work progresses, and they will be notified in advance of the changes.

Currently, access to emergency services will remain the same until the implementation plan is fully developed and communicated to property owners.
