An opportunity to celebrate and encourage active transportation in the city
The City of Charlottetown is inviting residents to celebrate Bike Week from Monday, June 13 to Sunday, June 19. The annual celebration encourages people to use active transportation as their preferred mode of travel. Again this year, the City is hosting a number of activities focused on cycling safety and the benefits of cycling.
Events include:
“Thank You For Biking” Campaign
Date: Monday, June 13 to Friday, June 17
Location: Charlottetown
Details: Ride your bike in Charlottetown during Bike Week and you may receive a “Thank You For Biking” bike tag surprise. City Staff will be on the look our for local cyclists in Charlottetown.
Cycling Heritage Exhibit
Date: Monday, June 13 to Sunday, June 19
Location: Victoria Park
Details: Check out the cycling heritage exhibit display along the multi-use pathway in Victoria Park and learn about the history and popularity of the bicycle in the City of Charlottetown.
Thirsty Thursday Group Mountain Bike Ride
Date: Thursday, June 16
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Acadian Forest Trails, East Royalty. Gather at the trailhead behind the Parkman Soccer Complex.
Details: Join a group mountain bike ride (all levels welcome) with PEI Bike Guy, followed by a casual gathering at Red Island Cider.
Bike to Work/School Day
Date: Friday, June 17
Details: Join your peers and colleagues and ride your bike to work or school. Register your school online for a chance to win prizes. Register here.
Bike-Friendly Block Party, hosted by Bike-Friendly Communities
Date: Saturday, June 18
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Cultural Pavilion, Victoria Park
Details: Free BBQ, cycling repair and safety demonstrations, bouncy castle and other activities for the whole family. Bike parade and ride with the Mayor beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In addition, the City has a few cycling initiatives available to businesses throughout the year including:

Bike Rack Cost Sharing Initiative for Businesses – the City of Charlottetown has a 50 per cent cost sharing initiative for businesses for the cost of a 4-bike bike rack.

Bike Friendly Businesses – register your business as part of Charlottetown’s bike-friendly network. Your business will receive a window decal for your storefront and be featured on the City’s bike map.
