A monthly overview of current and upcoming road-related construction projects.
Please note that the start and completion dates listed below are tentative

Pond Street (from Queen Street to University Avenue)
Type: road reconstruction
Status: in progress
Expected completion: June 2022
The reconstruction of the existing roadway is currently underway. This reconstruction includes new construction of a sidewalk and curb to help define the roadway and improve safety for all users.

Ken’s Corner (Longworth/Euston/Weymouth Intersection)
Type: intersection upgrades – new traffic signals
Status: in progress
Expected completion: June 2022
The installation of new poles and traffic signals, including accessible pedestrian signals, is currently underway. This intersection upgrade is intended to make the intersection less ambiguous by improving the visibility of signal lights and thereby improving overall safety.

Belmont Street (from Longworth Avenue to Dresden Court)
Type: new sidewalk
Status: in progress
Expected completion: June 2022
The construction of a new 1.5m wide concrete sidewalk and curb is currently underway. This is intended to help define the roadway and improve safety for all users.

Garfield Street (from Kensington Road to Walker Drive)
Type: complete road reconstruction
Status: in progress
Expected completion: mid-summer 2022
The complete road rehabilitation of underground water, sewer and storm systems is currently underway. This will be followed by new construction of a sidewalk and curb to help define the roadway and improve overall safety. Finally, the road will be paved.

Beach Grove Road (between North River Road and Scott Street)
Type: stormwater management – large culvert replacement
Status: to begin June 2022
Expected completion: fall 2022
Work will include removing and replacing the current wooden box culvert with two twin concrete box culverts. The current box culvert is aging and needs to be replaced to improve safety and longevity. The new system is designed to meet environmental factors and provide some shoreline protection in this area. This work will also include a new fence, sidewalk, and water and sewer line. This work will improve the local stormwater management efforts in this area.

Harley Street
Type: complete road reconstruction
Status: to begin June 2022
Expected Completion: September 2022
The work will include the reconstruction of approximately 280 meters of street including sanitary sewer, manholes, watermain, valves, fittings, hydrants, lot services, including reconnection to existing storm sewer, catch basins, concrete curb, concrete sidewalk, asphalt and reinstatement. In addition, a chicane will be constructed on this street as a traffic calming measure to improve safety for pedestrians and vehicles.

St. Peter’s Road/Belvedere Avenue intersection
Status: construction of new roundabout
Projected start: to begin August 2022
Expected completion: late fall 2022
Work will include the complete reconstruction of the existing roadway, including water, sewer and storm systems. A roundabout will be constructed to replace the existing signalized intersection. This intersection upgrade will also include crosswalks that will feature rapid flashing rectangular beacons that can be activated by pedestrians to ensure their safety while crossing. This upgrade will help to eliminate congestion, improve traffic flow and eliminate confusion caused by the existing intersection. The roundabout will also improve safety for all users, as well as minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
