The City of Charlottetown Emergency Measures team and EMO partners continue to prepare for Hurricane Fiona's potential impacts and encourage the public to do the same.
As per the Provincial Department of Social Development and Housing's announcement yesterday afternoon, a temporary emergency shelter for people using temporary encampments will be provided at Jack Blanchard Hall (7 Pond Street, Charlottetown) from Thursday, September 22, to Sunday, September 25. The temporary emergency shelter will have cot-style beds, bedding, food and water.
Any announcements regarding the City of Charlottetown's operations, including the location of Reception Centres, should they be required, will be made through the City's social media pages (Twitter: @ChtownPE and Facebook: @CityofCharlottetown), on the City's website at
charlottetown.ca/news and through local media.
The City's essential services are equipped with backup power to provide a continuity of services. The public is encouraged, however, to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit, which includes items such as a supply of water for between three and seven days, non-perishable food, a crank or battery-powered flashlight and radio, extra batteries, a first aid kit, and more. For a detailed list, visit
getprepared.gc.ca. Residents are also encouraged to share the location of the emergency kit with everyone in their home or business.

Citizens are responsible for ensuring they can receive updates from emergency personnel, utility crews and the municipality in an emergency. The public is encouraged to have a device that can receive updates without an electricity source, such as a battery or hand crank-powered radio.
The public is also encouraged to sign-up for emergency alerts through the free Charlottetown Alert System. The public can receive emergency alerts via SMS (text message), email or phone. Sign up by visiting:
