Tree debris being salvaged for alternate uses and future projects

The City of Charlottetown Emergency Measures team and EMO partners remain dedicated to community recovery and clean-up efforts while balancing reopening and the delivery of core services. Dedicated efforts are focused on trees and other hazards in school zone areas that require multiple EMO partners to resolve. Residents, and in particular young families, are reminded to stay away from these areas until they have been fully cleared and deemed safe.

Due to the volume of fallen and damaged municipal trees, work crews will continue clean up efforts for several weeks in parks and on trails. As this work continues, residents are urged to use caution in these areas.

As part of the clean up efforts, the City is beginning to salvage wood for nature education programs, commemorative projects and legacy purposes. Debris is currently being marked and set aside in order to be milled and reclaimed for specific projects. In addition, tree debris is being chipped for future use in municipal parks and trails, and other programs such as energy from waste and wood for heating.

Debris Pick Up and Drop Off
Where possible and if it is safe to do so, residents are encouraged to cut tree branches into pieces four (4) feet in length or shorter and place them next to the roadway. To assist with the clean up efforts, pieces that are wider than 10 inches in diameter should be cut down into pieces that are two (2) feet in length or shorter. As a reminder, please do not pile other garbage or debris with the tree branches and stumps as this will slow down the clean up efforts as they are not part of the tree debris pick up. Public Works crews are picking up the tree debris. Due to volume, however, this work will continue for several days.
