Statement from Mayor Philip Brown Regarding 68 Park Street

“I am pleased that Council has approved the application to support the temporary use of modular housing at the Park Street location. This application has a meaningful impact on members of our community and speaks to the character of our community.
Tonight, Council made the decision to rescind the deferral for the request for a Major Variance to allow temporary use for two (2) modular buildings at 68 Park Street (PID #365593) for one (1) year. That decision then allowed Council to approve the request and permit the applicant, PEI Housing Corporation, to move forward with their plans.
We appreciate the importance of this application and the concern it has raised. While the proposed use of this site is temporary in nature, it is our hope that short- and long-term solutions are developed. We will continue to support and work with the province to further these efforts.”
