Mayor Philip Brown issued the following statement on the passing of former City Councillor Eddie Rice:

“On behalf of City Council and staff, I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eddie Rice.

Eddie Rice served on Charlottetown City Council from 1981-1989 and again from 2010 to 2018. He also worked as a Water Commissioner with the Charlottetown Water Commission prior to amalgamation.

During his time on Council, Eddie was a staunch champion of the causes and concerns of his constituents and delivered services to residents that reflected the changing needs of his community.

His legacy lives on in several projects that were realized thanks to his leadership and experience, including implementing the universal metering program, updating the City’s storm and sanitary sewer system, and improving the water quality in the Charlottetown Harbour.

Eddie had an unmistakable presence at City Hall and made a profound impact during his years as a City Councillor and 30 years of involvement in the municipality. He will be sorely missed.

Official City flags will be lowered to half-mast today to commemorate former City Councillor Eddie Rice’s contributions to the City of Charlottetown. We offer our sympathies to his family and loved ones during this time.”
