City Announces Signature Charlottetown Christmas Festival Events

Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting, and other Festive Favourites Return to Charlottetown

The City of Charlottetown is pleased to announce the return of two signature events for the first time since 2019 and more holiday activities that will bring spirit and sparkle to the capital city. This year's events include the long-awaited return of the Charlottetown Christmas Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting, as well as an all-new projection show, Holiday Home Decorating Contest, and Capital New Year celebrations.

Event-specific announcements with additional details will be posted on the City's social media channels, Twitter at @ChtownPE and Facebook at @CityofCharlottetown, and the City's website at in the coming weeks.

Charlottetown Christmas Parade
Date: Saturday, November 26, 2022
Time: 5 p.m.
Details: After a two-year hiatus, the Charlottetown Christmas Parade will return to the capital city on November 26. For full information, including details on the parade route, donations of non-perishable food items, and the collection of letters to Santa along the route, visit or call 902-566-5548.

A reminder that applications are being accepted until tomorrow, Tuesday, November 15 for community group participation in the parade. Entries must fall within the following categories: float, walking group, or band. There is no entry fee to participate. Application forms are available online at or in person at City Hall (199 Queen Street).

Christmas Tree Lighting
Friday, November 25, 2022
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza (Grafton Street)
Details: Featuring live performances by award-winning Island artists, refreshments, and a pyrotechnic display. A candlelight promenade will depart from Founders' Food Hall & Market at 6:15 p.m., with the official Tree Lighting ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the Confederation Centre of the Arts Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza (Grafton Street).

Holiday Magic on the Plaza
Date: Friday, November 18, 2022 to Monday, January 2, 2023
Time: Nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza (Grafton Street)
Details: This all-new, animated holiday-themed projection and music show will bring the Grafton Street façade of the Confederation Centre of the Arts to life again this year. Holiday Magic on the Plaza is a project of the City of Charlottetown in partnership with Confederation Centre of the Arts and Confederation Court Mall and is proudly supported by the TIAPEI Reanimate our Island Fund, Charlottetown Special Events Reserve Fund, and Tourism PEI.

Holiday Home Decorating Contest
Registration is open until Monday, December 5, 2022
Details: Get out the Christmas decorations! The home decorating contest is the perfect time to show off your holiday cheer with festive decorations on the exterior of your home or property. Entries will be judged the week of December 12 on the following criteria: use of natural materials, use of lighting, creativity, and overall design. Capital New Year
Saturday, December 31, 2022
Time: 11 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Founders' Food Hall & Market (6 Prince Street)
Details: Celebrate New Year's Eve with free, family-friendly activities, including live music, mascot appearances, a photo booth, an art activity, giveaways, fireworks, and more. Capital New Year is a partnership between the City of Charlottetown and Founders' Food Hall & Market and is proudly supported by the PEI Events Innovation Fund. A schedule of events will be available at in early December.
