Motorists asked to use caution in impacted areas during events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
The City of Charlottetown is advising community members of traffic-related impacts this coming weekend for the following Christmas activities:
- Victorian Christmas Market (Friday, November 25 to Sunday, November 27)
- Christmas Tree Lighting (Friday, November 25)
- Charlottetown Christmas Parade (Saturday, November 26)
Motorists are asked to use caution when travelling throughout the city in impacted areas and plan ahead, as there will be traffic delays during the dates and times outlined below.
Victorian Christmas Market
Dates: Friday, November 25 to Sunday, November 27, 2022
Location: Queen Street and Richmond Street (Victoria Row)
The following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 4 a.m. on Friday, November 25, until 10 p.m. on Sunday, November 27:
- Queen Street between Grafton Street and Sydney Street (Grafton Street and Sydney Street will remain open to traffic)
- Richmond Street (Victoria Row) between Pownal Street and Great George Street
In addition to street closures, there will be no parking in the following areas beginning at 4 a.m. on Friday, November 25 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, November 27:
- Queen Street between Grafton Street and Sydney Street
- Richmond Street (Victoria Row) between Pownal Street and Great George Street
- The Confederation Court Mall (Eastern) side of Queen Street between Grafton Street and the accessible parking space outside the entrance to the mall
The Transit PEI bus stop located at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Box Office will be temporarily moved to the area in front of The Pilot House (70 Grafton Street) all day on Friday, November 25. For additional information on T3 Transit, contact 902-566-9962.
Christmas Tree Lighting
Date: Friday, November 25, 2022
Location: Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza at Confederation Centre of the Arts (Grafton Street)
The following road will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (or the event conclusion) on Friday, November 25, 2022:
- Grafton Street between Queen Street and Great George Street
In addition to the above street closure, there will be no parking in the following area beginning at 5 a.m. on Friday, November 25 until 7:30 p.m. (or the event conclusion):
- Grafton Street between Queen Street and Great George Street
Motorists are asked to be mindful of participants of the candlelight promenade, which will depart from Founders’ Food Hall & Market at 6:15 p.m. and proceed to the Christmas Tree Lighting at the Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza at Confederation Centre of the Arts (Grafton Street). Participants will proceed on foot along Great George Street, Victoria Row, Queen Street, and Grafton Street.
The T3 Transit bus stop on Grafton Street in front of the Confederation Centre of the Arts will be temporarily moved to the area in front of The Pilot House (70 Grafton Street) between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on November 25. For additional information on T3 Transit, contact 902-566-9962.
Charlottetown Christmas Parade
Date: Saturday, November 26, 2022
Location: The parade begins at the UPEI entrance on University Avenue and will travel south on University Avenue/Great George Street to Grafton Street, proceed west to West Street, and then to Kent Street. The parade ends at the Provincial Government Buildings parking lot.
The following streets will be closed to traffic beginning at 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. (or the event conclusion), on Saturday, November 26, 2022, with no parking permitted from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.:
- Enman Crescent between Raiders Road and University Avenue;
- University Avenue between Enman Crescent and Euston Street;
- Great George Street between Euston Street and Grafton Street;
- Grafton Street between Prince Street and West Street;
- West Street between Grafton Street and Kent Street;
- Kent Street between West Street and Terry Fox Drive.
Any vehicles parked on the above streets after 3 p.m. risk being ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
To accommodate parade staging, Raiders Road, between Burns Avenue and Enman Crescent, will be closed to traffic beginning at 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
As a result of the above noted street closures, adjustments to the T3 Transit bus schedule are also required. The last buses on Route 1 (University Avenue) will depart the Confederation Centre of the Arts bus stop on Grafton Street and Royalty Crossing Mall at 3:30 p.m. The final departures from downtown on Routes 2 and 3 will take place at 2:45 p.m. Route 2 and 3 will depart the Royalty Crossing bus stop by 3:15 p.m. Route 1 will resume at 7:00 p.m. from Confederation Centre of the Arts and 7:10 p.m. from Royalty Crossing.
