The City of Charlottetown's Climate Action Plan Phase One report is now available. This report contains recommendations for how the City can create a Climate Action Plan that works to build climate and extreme weather resilience as well as reduce Charlottetown's greenhouse gas emissions.

“The development of a Climate Action Plan for Charlottetown plays a large part of our commitment to climate change management and mitigation in the city,” said Mayor Philip Brown. “This Plan will set concrete, actionable goals that are informed by climate science, Indigenous wisdom, stakeholder expertise, and community experiences and priorities.”

The report includes the findings of Phase One community and stakeholder engagement activities and identifies recommendations that will guide Phase Two of the project, developing the Climate Action Plan. These recommendations include a set of guiding principles and focus areas, the key components the Plan should incorporate, and gaps in data or knowledge that must be filled to inform the Plan.

“A key factor emphasized through Phase One of this work is the importance of meaningfully engaging with the community on the topic of climate action,” said Councillor Terry Bernard, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Standing Committee. “The development of this Plan is an important opportunity for stakeholders, rightsholders, and the community to determine how we can all work together to address the issue of climate change.”

Based on the findings of the report, the City is planning next steps for this work, including a Communications and Engagement Plan that will guide how the City further engages with the public and stakeholders on this important project.
