The City of Charlottetown's annual Wintertide Holiday Festival is a collection of the many seasonal celebrations, events and recreational activities taking place from November 29, 2019 to January 5, 2020.

The Wintertide Holiday Festival also adds spirit and sparkle to Charlottetown's nighttime sky through thousands of lights in the Capital region.

Seasonal celebrations, activities, events, goodwill giving and community support programs in the Wintertide Holiday Festival Calendar of Events are but a highlight of some of the scheduled programming taking place in the city over the next several weeks.

Wintertide Holiday Festival Tree Lighting (Friday, November 29)


Discover the magic of the holiday season with the Wintertide Holiday Festival Tree Lighting on Friday, November 29!

The event begins with a candlelight walk from Peake's Wharf to the Confederation Centre of the Arts Upper Plaza. For those who wish to participate in the candlelight walk, meet at Peake's Wharf to pick up your candle between 6 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The festivities begin at the Confederation Centre Upper Plaza (Grafton Street side) at 6:15 p.m. There will be entertainment and refreshments.

Join family and friends as we usher in the holiday season in Historic Downtown Charlottetown with Father Christmas, the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus, and Julia Dunn. The evening will finish with a spectacular Pyrotechnic Finale. Don't miss this magical and festive evening!

Charlottetown Christmas Parade (Saturday, November 30 at 5:00 p.m.)


Charlottetown Christmas Parade

Ho! Ho! Ho! Feel the magic of the Season this Christmas and join Santa in the Capital City on Saturday, November 30 for the 21st annual Charlottetown Christmas Parade.

The parade will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the University Avenue entrance to UPEI and will travel down University Avenue/Great George Street to Grafton Street, continuing along Grafton Street to West Street, and finishing at the Provincial Government Buildings. The public is encouraged to line the parade route and enjoy the seasonal music, sparkling lights, and Christmas spirit!

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Food Bank will be collecting non-perishable food items along the parade route. Children are also encouraged to bring their letters for Santa to be collected by Canada Post employees.

John Gracie Swing Into Christmas (Friday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m.)


John Gracie Swing Into Christmas is an annual Christmas concert featuring recording artist John Gracie. It's a magical evening of classic Christmas songs taking place Friday, December 6 at Trinity United Church in Charlottetown.

Tickets are FREE to the public and will be made available on Saturday, November 23 at the Confederation Court Mall Food Court (134 Kent Street) from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (or until tickets are gone).
* Limit of 2 tickets per show, per person

A Christmas to Remember (Saturday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m.)


A Christmas to Remember features heart-warming holiday music and Island Christmas stories featuring talented local performers Kendall Docherty, Catherine O’Brien, Caroline Bernard, Marlane O’Brien, Don Fraser, and The Reindeer Express Band. This holiday performance is taking place Saturday, December 7 at Trinity United Church in Charlottetown.

Charlottetown Christmas Festival (Friday, November 29- Sunday, December 1)


The 6th annual Charlottetown Christmas Festival (formerly Victorian Christmas Weekend) will take place during the same weekend of the Charlottetown Christmas Parade, November 29th to December 1st. This festive celebration will feature many yuletide events including the 6th Annual Charlottetown Christmas Market on Queen Street, free horse-drawn wagon rides, ice sculpting demos, visits with Santa, Christmas singalongs, free walking and church tours, breakfast with Santa and much more.

Charlottetown Christmas Festival is being led by Discover Charlottetown and is presented by Confederation Court Mall, with support from ACOA, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, the City of Charlottetown, SERF and Downtown Charlottetown Inc.

Wintertide Home Decorating Contest (Registration deadline - Monday, December 9)


Charlottetown residents are invited to participate in the holiday season and share in the magical spirit with neighbours and family by decorating their home!

Residents interested in participating in the Wintertide Home Decorating Contest must register by 12 p.m. on Monday, December 9. Judging will begin Monday, December 16, with winners announced at a later date. Entries are being judged on the following criteria: use of natural materials, use of lighting, creativity with materials, and overall design.
