Atlantic Mayor’s Congress Set to Begin in Charlottetown

The Atlantic Mayor’s Congress, an organization of Atlantic Canadian cities and municipalities committed to improving municipal government and developing a strong, unified voice to advocate for municipalities in the Atlantic region, is set to meet Thursday, October 21 until Saturday October 23, 2021. This marks the first time the organization has met as a group since September 2020 in Summerside, PEI.

“It is an honour to host my Atlantic Canadian peers right here in the birthplace of Confederation. I am very muck looking forward to working through a productive weekend full of presentations and featured speakers on a range of topics, from housing and short-term rentals to the role of municipalities in the reconciliation process Indigenous communities,” said City of Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown. “We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of Atlantic Canadian Mayor’s who are committed to building a stronger voice for our regions municipal interests, and I am excited to see this years Congress take place despite the challenging times we are facing. Now more than ever, municipalities in our region need to work together for the benefit of all citizens,” said Brown.

A welcome reception for attendees and guests will take place Thursday evening, with the bulk of the agenda expected to occur over the course of Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23. Friday’s events are slated to begin at 9:00am, with a welcome ceremony and remarks delivered by Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown. Topics of discussion and presentations include an update from Charlottetown Area Development Corporation, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, housing and short-term rentals, PEI BioAlliance, L’nuey, and a report from the micro-summit on economic development.

Saturdays scheduled agenda begins at 9:30am, with a presentation on the Summerside Solar Project, Colliers Project, Waste Management and Environmental Liabilities. Saturday will also feature a financial update from the Atlantic Mayor’s Congress organization and the election of directors.
