Posted on 09/08/2019
The three reception centres operated by the City of Charlottetown will close at 4 p.m. this afternoon (Sunday, September 8). The three reception centres closing are West Royalty Community Centre, Hillsborough Park Community Centre and Confederation Centre of the Arts.

The public is encouraged to continue to check on neighbours and loved ones until all power has been restored. Maritime Electric is working to address power outages and downed lines. The public is asked to report downed poles or lines to Maritime Electric directly via 1-800-670-1012.

Motorists are reminded that intersections ordinarily lit by traffic lights must be treated as four-way or all-way stops if the traffic lights are out. Those who have to travel should still do so with caution as cleanup efforts continue.

There are many tree limbs and some trees down throughout the city and crews continue to focus efforts on clearing the roads and the public right-of-way of debris. Residents are asked to keep all branches and downed trees on their own properties. An announcement is expected to be made on Tuesday, September 10 in regards to residential pick-up of tree branches and debris once a discussion is held with Island Waste Management Corporation (IWMC).

The public can continue to report water leaks, watermain breaks, fire hydrant issues, sewer backup or missing manhole covers to the Water and Sewer Utility at 902-626-2100. Reports of catch basin problems, downed trees on public right-of-way, or issues with City infrastructure, can be made to Public Works at 902-629-6916. The City’s general inquiry phone line (902-566-5548) will close at 4 p.m. and reopen on Monday, September 9 at 8 a.m.
