Mayor Philip Brown issued the following statement on International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia:
“On behalf of the Charlottetown City Council, I want to extend a message of support and solidarity to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community on this International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
We strive to make Charlottetown a City where everyone can feel welcome, safe, and accepted regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. Everyone has the right to be themselves, and no one should ever have to live in fear because of who they are.
Discrimination is not welcome in Charlottetown and we hope that everyone in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community feels supported – not just today, but every day.
I encourage all Charlottetown residents to visit the Pride PEI website at
www.pridepei.ca to learn more about how we can take a stand together and put an end to intolerance, discrimination, and hate.”
