Community Drop-In Session Next Week

Community Drop-In Session Next Week for the Fitzroy Street Bike Lane Project
Posted on 01/03/2019
A Community Drop-In Session for the Fitzroy Street Bike Lane Project will be held on Thursday, January 10 from 7-9 p.m. in the Provinces Room at the Rodd Charlottetown (75 Kent Street). This provides the public with an opportunity to learn what the project involves, how it will benefit Charlottetown, and to share input that will inform the design and implementation of this exciting initiative.

The project proposes the creation of a 2-way bike lane on Fitzroy Street, connecting the Confederation Trail to the Victoria Park Bike Lane. The bike lane will be located on the south-side of Fitzroy Street, and will be separated from traffic by barriers that can be removed for the winter months. The project will also result in improvements to enable a street that is safe, convenient and comfortable for all road users.

This project is funded 50 per cent by the Province of PEI through the Municipal Strategic Component of the Gas Tax Funds.

At the Community Drop-In Session, participants can expect to view ideas for the Fitzroy Street Bike Lane design and will be invited to give their feedback on the proposals. There will be an opportunity to explore changes to parking and how to accommodate residents and businesses on the street. Participants can also share other ideas they have for creating a street that is safe for all users. Feedback will be integrated into the final design that will be presented to Council and the public in February 2019. Final designs will be considered for inclusion in the 2019-2020 capital budget. CBCL and UPLAND have been awarded the contract to provide the engineering design services, intersection reconfiguration and cost-estimates. They will also lead this Community Drop-In Session.
