Rolling Closures This Weekend for GranFondo PEI

Rolling Closures This Weekend for GranFondo PEI
Posted on 08/21/2019
Motorists are asked to use extra caution when travelling in and around the Capital City this weekend as events will be in progress with an increase in pedestrians and cyclists.

GranFondo PEI takes place this weekend with 300 cyclists participating. On Saturday, August 24 at 8 a.m. cyclists will leave the Eastlink Centre via Kensington Road, and turn right onto Exhibition Drive. They will proceed onto Riverside Drive to Water Street, turn right on Haviland Street and proceed onto Rochford Street, the Victoria Park Cycling Lane, Brighton Road, North River Road and exit Charlottetown via Lower Malpeque Road, turning left on Route 2.

Charlottetown Police will escort the GranFondo participants with rolling closures along the route. There will be a temporary closure of the cycling lane to allow safe passage through the park. On the ride back to the Eastlink Centre, cyclists will have a staggered finish, returning to Charlottetown via the Hillsborough Bridge and using the roundabout by Exhibition Drive. They will use Park Street on their return rather than Kensington Road to access the Eastlink Centre.

Motorists are advised to watch cyclists throughout the day, respect the rolling closures, and be prepared for delays as GranFondo begins on Saturday morning.
