STR Regulation Technical Background Report Now Available

The City of Charlottetown’s Planning and Heritage Department has released a technical background report outlining the community impacts of short-term rental (STR) properties, feedback received from the public during the consultation phase, and STR regulatory options based on best practices across the country.

The report will be submitted to City Council and the Planning Board for their October meetings, along with recommendations from Planning staff on how STR properties may be regulated in Charlottetown moving forward.

Council will receive the technical planning report and the Planning staff recommendations through the official process and will use their October meeting to discuss the content and determine whether they wish to go to a public hearing later in the month to receive input on the recommendations.

In the interim, the technical background report is available on the City’s website (www.charlottetown.ca) and can be accessed by clicking on the “Mayor & Council” tab followed by “Short Term Rental Process” under the “Council Meetings” heading. Residents can also access the technical background report, as well as other documents relevant to STR’s in Charlottetown by clicking the following link:

The technical background report is intended to provide all interested residents and stakeholders with a baseline of information prior to a potential public hearing.
