Traffic Advisory: Upcoming PEI Marathon Weekend, October 16 and 17

The 17th annual Prince Edward Island Marathon is scheduled for October 16th – 17th, 2021. The PEI Marathon Weekend is a two-day running and walking event this year.

The Jacob Simmons 5K Spud Run, Goodlife Fitness 10K Run, and the Bell Let’s Talk 5 & 10K Walks for Mental Health will occur on Saturday, October 16, 2021.

The Full Marathon, Corporate/Team Relay, Half Marathon Run, and Half Marathon Walk all occur on Sunday, October 17, 2021. The Full Marathon and Corporate/Team Relay begin at the Brackley entrance in PEI National Park. The Half Marathon Run and Walk starts in Charlottetown on Grafton Street in front of the COWS store and runs through Charlottetown along the waterfront. All routes on Sunday end in Downtown Charlottetown.

There are several scheduled traffic impacts as a result of the PEI Marathon events. These impacts will affect various areas of the City on Saturday, October 16, and Sunday, October 17.
The following areas will be affected by the PEI Marathon on Saturday, October 16:
• Water Street, between Prince Street and Haviland Street
• Haviland Street/Rochford Street, between Water Street and Kent Street
• Kent Street, between Rochford Street and Terry Fox Drive
• Victoria Park Roadway, between Terry Fox Drive and Queen Elizabeth Road
These streets will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Additionally, while some other streets remain open to local traffic, there will also be runners on Queen Elizabeth Drive, Charlotte Drive, Edinburgh Drive, Brittany Drive, & Maplewood Crescent Saturday morning.

The following areas will be affected by the PEI Marathon on Sunday, October 17:
• Sherwood Road, between Malpeque Road and Brackley Point Road, will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
• University Avenue/ Great George Street, between Allen Street and Euston Street, and between Euston Street and Fitzroy Street, will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The following areas will have no parking in effect and be closed to all vehicle traffic beginning 12:01 a.m. Sunday, October 17:
• Grafton Street, between Church Street and Queen Street
• Great George Street, between Grafton Street and Fitzroy Street
• Kent Street, between Queen Street and Great George Street

Motorists and the traveling public are asked to use caution while commuting in and around the City of Charlottetown on the affected dates.
