The City of Charlottetown is pleased to announce the three winners of the 2022 Make Our Hometown Beautiful program, the Mayor’s Choice Award, and the annual Adopt a Corner program.

Make Our Hometown Beautiful is designed to recognize those who maintain buildings and landscapes in the city. This year, the properties were chosen based on curb appeal, and the results were based on what could be viewed from the road without entering private property.

Judging took place the week of August 29, with the top three properties chosen by a committee. Winners will receive an original watercolour painting of their property, a gift card to a local business, and more.

The winning properties for the 2022 Make Our Hometown Beautiful contest are:

  • 20 Hawthorne Avenue
  • 9 Westridge Crescent
  • 85 Hillsborough Street

The 2022 Mayor’s choice award for the program will be presented to 7 Lewis Crescent.

“A sincere thank you to all those who put in the effort required to make our city a beautiful place to live, work and play,” said Mayor Brown. “The dedication required to maintain a lawn and garden is something that I am proud to recognize and celebrate with this program. Thank you to everyone who nominated a property and participated in this year’s Make Our Hometown Beautiful contest.”

During Make Our Hometown Beautiful 2022, judging also took place for the annual Adopt a Corner program, in partnership with Downtown Charlottetown Inc. The winners are as follows:

Established

  • 1st Place – Frank Zakem Memorial
  • 2nd Place – Rodd Charlottetown Hotel
  • 3rd Place – Island Coastal Landscaping

New

  • 1st Place – Humble Barber
  • 2nd Place – Wink Esthetics
  • 3rd Place – Sea Rocket Oyster House

“In this, the Year of the Garden, DCI’s award-winning Adopt a Corner Program, celebrates its 15th year,” said Dawn Alan, Executive Director, Downtown Charlottetown Inc. “What really makes this program successful are our partners; First, our business members who adopt the corners, their teams who design and plant, and the City beautification team who ensure the flower beds are prepared and maintained. The results are always beautiful and unique, giving all those involved a great sense of pride and ownership while enhancing the quality of life and environment for our community and visitors. We encourage everyone to tour around the Downtown to see the over 80 Adopt a Corner gardens, no two alike. This year’s theme: Plant Red and show your Canadian garden pride... the results are amazing.”
