Better Homes Neighbourhood Energy Project

Better Homes Neighbourhood Energy Project

The Better Homes Neighbourhood Energy Project is a partnership between efficiencyPEI and the City of Charlottetown that gives residents access to a free energy audit, energy upgrades, and one-on-one access to an energy consultant to help improve home energy efficiency and energy literacy. This program was first launched in fall 2019 and was open to residents in the Sherwood neighbourhood. The program is being re-launched for the 2021/22 season and is open to a subsection of Charlottetown's downtown core. The program is only open to those households in this area - all eligible properties have received a mailout invitation.

Energy efficiency provides numerous benefits for every home. Homes that are energy efficient are more comfortable in all seasons, save money on electricity and home heating costs, and lessen environmental impact by reducing green house gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Whether you’re retired, or a young family just starting out, or anyone in between, there is plenty to gain from this opportunity to engage with knowledgeable professionals about your home’s energy efficiency.

Participants will receive:

  • A free energy audit for your home
  • A one-on-one consultation with an energy consultant to review options for improving the efficiency of your home, helping you reduce your energy costs, and helping you to learn more about energy saving opportunities
  • Free energy upgrades!
At minimum, all residents who participate will receive efficiencyPEI’s Winter Warming program, which includes:
        - Air sealing
        - A low-flow showerhead
        - LED light bulbs
        - A programmable thermostat
        - A voucher for a heating system cleaning

Should you choose to move forward with more intensive retrofits, you will be supported through one-on-one consultation to develop a plan for your home and you will have access to rebates and 0% financing through the Switch Charlottetown program.

Better Homes Neighbourhood Energy Project is primarily targeted at single family dwellings. A limited number of spaces are available for Multi-Unit Residential Buildings (MURBs) and Heritage Homes.

What do we need from you?

  • Your answers to a pre and post survey
  • Your feedback on your experience with the Better Homes Neighbourhood Energy Project and how efficiencyPEI’s rebate programs could be improved
  • Permission to access your historical and post-retrofit utility data that would be used in education and awareness campaigns to demonstrate the impact of energy efficiency interventions at a single-home and at a neighbourhood level
  • Participants must be present during the home energy audit
