Whether you have a balcony, a small patio, or just a sunny windowsill, you can grow your own fresh food where you live. The Gardening in Small Spaces workshop is designed to help participants overcome the challenges of urban gardening and learn simple, effective techniques for growing food with limited space.
During the event, participants will:
- Learn how to grow microgreens, a quick and nutrient-packed way to harvest fresh greens indoors.
- Plant their own container garden with a vegetable, fruit, or herb of their choosing, to take home.
- Take home seeds specifically chosen to thrive in containers or small areas.
Registration is not required, and supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gardening gloves; limited quantities will be available.
Supporting residents in growing their own food is one way the City of Charlottetown is building a more resilient local food system, a key theme identified in the City’s Climate Action Plan. To help address food insecurity, the City has established a Food Council, adopted a Food Charter and continues to support community gardens, educational programming, food waste reduction initiatives and local food production.
