Summer BioBlitz 2026! From July 15 to August 15, over 120 people used
iNaturalist to submit over 2,000 observations of about 600 different species!
Thank you for helping scientists and the community learn more about
Charlottetown’s urban biodiversity. Even though the BioBlitz is over, the
science and exploration can continue! iNaturalist is a free, community science
app that can be used anywhere, anytime to document wild species, helping contribute

What is a bioblitz?
According to iNaturalist.ca, a BioBlitz is a “communal effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. Bioblitzes are great ways to engage the public to connect to their environment while generating useful data for science and conservation. They are also an excuse for naturalists, scientists, and curious members of the public to meet in person in the great outdoors, and they're a lot of fun!”
What is iNaturalist?
iNaturalist is a free citizen science app that helps individuals identify photos and recordings of plants, insects, animals and fungi. These observations are used by researchers all over the world to help protect biodiversity. iNaturalist Canada is operated by the Canadian Wildlife Federation, Parks Canada, and NatureServe Canada.
How do I use iNaturalist?
This app is easy to use once you know how to use it! iNaturalist has a great how to guide with written instructions that can help you get started. The guide will show you how to sign up for an iNaturalist account, how to make an observation, how to use the identify page, and how to search iNaturalist observations!
