Student Awarded City of Charlottetown Prize at Provincial Heritage Fair
Posted on 06/06/2025
Sophia Guanzon, a Grade 6 student at West Royalty Elementary School, won the City of Charlottetown Prize at the 2025 Provincial Heritage Fair.
The City of Charlottetown Prize is awarded annually to a student who exhibits an outstanding project on a part of Charlottetown’s heritage. Guanzon won the prize for her project on St. Dunstan's Cathedral Basilica on Great George Street. The project explored the history of the magnificent French Gothic cathedral that was built in 1919 after a fire destroyed the previous stone church in 1913. The Cathedral is designated a Charlottetown Heritage Resource and a National Historic Site.
More than 230 students from 25 schools across P.E.I. participated in this year’s Provincial Heritage Fair. The Heritage Fair program is an educational initiative that gives students from Grades 5 and up an opportunity to present their projects to judges from their communities. The top projects chosen from each school go on to the Provincial Heritage Fair, which took place on May 23 at the Eastlink Centre.
Please join us in congratulating Sophia and all of this year’s finalists!
