The Charlottetown Fire Department reminds residents that in accordance with the provincial fire ban
announced today, all outdoor burning within the City is currently prohibited and existing 2025 City burning permits are suspended until further notice.
The ban prohibits all fires in the province including campfires and bonfires on private property and provincial parks and campgrounds. Fines under the provincial Forest Fire Prevention Act can reach up to $50,000 and individuals violating the ban may be liable for all damages arising from a fire.
The following fire safety tips can help residents and businesses keep their properties and our community safe:
• Follow safe barbeque practices, including keeping barbeques at least 10 feet from any building. Never leave an appliance unattended during operation.
• Ensure all smoking materials are property disposed.
• Follow provincial recommendations including ensuring mulch is at least 18 inches away from a building.
o Keep combustible mulch moist when used near or around a building or structure, if possible.
o Never discard smoking material in or around mulch at home or at commercial facilities, including drive-thrus.
o At commercial buildings where smoking is permissible by provincial regulations, ensure there are proper receptables in place.
Residents with concerns about wood debris or other potential fire hazards are asked to call the Charlottetown Fire Department non-emergency line at 902-629-4083.
In the event of an active outdoor fire, please call 911.
