Construction to Begin on New Artificial Turf Field
Posted on 07/14/2026
The City of Charlottetown advises residents that construction on the artificial turf field next to the Simmons Sports Centre will begin on July 16.
Work will begin with site preparation, including the excavation and removal of soil from the field site. During construction, residents can expect increased truck traffic entering and exiting the site via the North River Road entrance between the Simmons Sports Centre and the field. The City and its contractors will make every effort to minimize disruptions during construction. The project is expected to be completed in early September.
The artificial turf field represents an important investment in community recreation and sport infrastructure. Designed to accommodate substantially more play than a natural grass field, it will help meet the growing demand for field space from local sports organizations and community groups. Once complete, the field will provide a high-quality, durable playing surface that extends the playing season, increases access for athletes and supports the continued growth of sport and recreation in Charlottetown.
The City appreciates the patience and understanding of nearby residents during construction and looks forward to opening this new community asset.
Additional updates will be shared as the project progresses.
