The City of Charlottetown's annual Waste Reduction Week will take place Oct. 20 to 26, inspiring the community to come together and take action to reduce waste.
The City has partnered with local organizations to offer events throughout the week that teach residents how to make waste reduction and recycling a part of their daily routine.

Charlottetown Tool Library Incentive
Date: Monday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 26

Details: All annual memberships purchased from the Charlottetown Tool Library will be half-price, costing only $25! Only purchases made during Waste Reduction Week will qualify.
Circular Economy Monday
Date: Monday, Oct. 20
Location: Charlottetown City Hall, 199 Queen Street
Details: To kick off Waste Reduction Week, come see City Hall lit up in green and blue!
Mending Workshop
Date: Tuesday, Oct. 21, 6 – 7 a.m.
Location: The Gallery Coffee House and Bistro, 82 Great George Street
Details: Join local seamstress Hope Rector for a free hands-on workshop learning a variety of beginner friendly, hand sewing and mending techniques. Bring your own piece of clothing to repair and we’ll walk you through it! Each participant will receive their own sewing kit to use at the workshop and to take home with them. Pre-register on

Battery Recycling Drive with Recycle Your Batteries Canada!
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 22, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Charlottetown City Hall, 199 Queen Street
Details: Are you looking to get rid of old batteries? Last year, we broke our record with 400kg of batteries recycled at City Hall and received the Sustainability Leadership Award from Call2Recyle Canada. This year we’re aiming to recycle 500kg of batteries! Bring your old batteries to the dropbox located in the front lobby of City Hall at 199 Queen St. The first 10 participants to drop off their batteries will receive a $10 Downtown Charlottetown gift card, and all participants will have a chance grab some Recycle Your Batteries Canada swag!
Movie Night! Screening of Wall-E
Date: Thursday, Oct. 23, 7:15 p.m.

Food Waste Reduction Workshop
Date: Friday, Oct. 24, 5 – 7 p.m.
Location: Tourism and Culinary Centre, 4 Sydney Street
Details: Learn simple, safe, and budget-friendly ways to extend the life of your food and cut waste at home from Chef Michael Bryanton. This live session covers planning, storage, and preservation methods from fridge and freezer hacks to quick pickles, dehydration basics, and safe canning principles so you can keep food fresh longer, use what you buy, and save money. This event is in collaboration with the Charlottetown Food Council Advisory Board.
Clothing Swap and Shop
Date: Saturday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Location: Beaconsfield Carriage House, 2 Kent Street
Details: Take part in a clothing swap and market! Each person can bring up to five items of clothing to swap for free! We’ll also have live music to enjoy and local vendors to shop from. This event is made possible through a partnership with Village & Values.
Fix-It Fair
Date: Sunday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: West Royalty Community Centre, 1 Kirkdale Road
Details: The City’s annual Fix-It Fair is back again! Give your broken items a renewed life at the Repair Café. Attend hourly workshops and visit local community groups at our Community Resource Hub!
The Repair Café will feature “fixers” who have volunteered to repair various household items for free. The role of the fixers is not only to repair broken items but to share their knowledge so participants can perform similar repairs at home. Participants can bring in one item, such as a small appliance or item of clothing, to be repaired by the skilled on-site fixers. Have a knack for fixing things? We’re still looking for volunteers!
