The City of Charlottetown has launched a new online tool to track the municipality’s progress on the goals and actions of its Climate Action Plan.
City council adopted Charlottetown’s first-ever
Climate Action Plan in April 2025. The plan sets out an ambitious strategy aimed at preparing the city for the impacts of climate change and reducing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions. The Climate Action Tracker is a public online platform designed to keep residents, community partners and staff informed and engaged in the plan’s progress. Users can:
• Monitor progress on each action within the Climate Action Plan
• Explore key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure success
• Visualize achievements and milestones through interactive charts and updates
• Stay connected with opportunities for feedback and dialogue as the plan evolves.
“As the City and our partners work to implement the Climate Action Plan, transparency and accountability are top priorities,” said Mayor Philip Brown. “Climate change affects everyone, and all who live, work or play in Charlottetown should have clear, accessible information about the progress being made.”
As the coastal capital city of P.E.I., Charlottetown is committed to leading efforts on climate action. This includes applying a climate lens to decision-making, implementing the Climate Action Plan’s goals and actions, and ensuring staff and Council have the most up-to-date climate action data, while regularly sharing that information widely with the community.
“By introducing the Climate Action Tracker, the city is making its progress visible, empowering residents to participate and ensuring climate action remains a shared responsibility,” said Councillor Trevor MacKinnon, Chair of the City’s Environment and Sustainability Committee. “Together we can track progress, celebrate successes and identify areas where more work is needed.”
The development of the Climate Action Tracker aligns with Action 9.1.1 of the city’s Climate Action Plan, which calls for the city to “develop a detailed monitoring, reporting, and engagement schedule for the Climate Action Plan, including specific Key Performance Indicators, a virtual reporting platform, and opportunities for ongoing dialogue with the community regarding Plan implementation.”
