The City of Charlottetown, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Charlottetown, is inviting the public to a community planting event on Saturday, June 7 at 2 p.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre (1 Kirkdale Road).
The Rotary Club of Charlottetown recently donated over $10,000 to the City to create a pollinator garden at the Centre, and to add signage and benches to create a beautiful new natural area for residents and pollinators to enjoy.
Pollinator gardens are specially designed spaces filled with native plants that attract and support pollinators such as bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. These animals play an important role in nature by helping plants grow and reproduce. Without pollinators, many of the foods we eat and the plants we enjoy wouldn’t grow. Establishing a pollinator garden helps support local wildlife and protect the environment.
The event will include formal remarks from representatives from the City and the Rotary Club of Charlottetown, followed by a community planting of approximately 120 plants from 15 different species, offering a wide range of food sources for various local pollinators.
The pollinator garden is one of many habitat creation and restoration initiatives currently underway in Charlottetown. To learn more about this work, please visit our
