Grafton Street to be Converted to One-Way Traffic

Portion of Grafton Street to be Temporarily Converted to One-Way Traffic
Posted on 11/23/2023
Work will begin to replace the water line on Grafton Street from Cumberland Street to the Hillsborough Bridge on Friday, Nov. 24. To accommodate this work, Grafton Street will be temporarily modified to a one-way street, westbound into the city, and a detour will be in place. These changes will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until further notice. All local businesses on the street will remain open at this time.

The initial water line replacement and associated traffic impacts are expected to last three to four weeks, with two-way traffic restored upon completion of the work.

The Grafton Street water line replacement is part of Phase 1 of the larger Eastern Gateway Waterfront Master Plan that is intended to guide new opportunities for growth and development, recreational land, and events in and around the Hillsborough Bridge area. The Plan, a joint project with the City of Charlottetown and the Province of P.E.I., was originally passed in 2011, and can be viewed on the City’s website. The total street reconstruction is anticipated to be completed next summer.
