PEI Marathon Traffic Impacts

The City of Charlottetown is advising residents of traffic-related impacts from the Prince Edward Island Marathon, scheduled for this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15.

Saturday, Oct. 14
The 10 km run/walk, 5 km run/walk, 2 km wheelchair and Kids Fox Trot events begin at Prince St. by Confederation Landing.

The following roads will be closed as follows:
• Water St. between Prince St. and Haviland St., from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
• Haviland St. / Rochford St. between Water St. and Kent St., from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
• Kent St.: Rochford St. to Terry Fox Dr., from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
• Victoria Park Roadway: Terry Fox Dr. to Queen Elizabeth Dr., from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

Traffic delays are expected along the route from approximately 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and will impact Queen Elizabeth Dr., Charlotte Dr., Edinburgh Dr., Brittany Dr., and Maplewood Cres.

Sunday, Oct. 15
The full marathon, team relay, half-marathon run/walk, and 16 km run/walk will begin on the corner of Great George St. in front of the cenotaph.

The following roads will be closed as follows:
• Victoria Park Roadway from 7 – 10:30 a.m.
• Grafton St. between Queen St. and Church St., from 12:01 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• University Ave. between Kirkwood Ave. and Grafton St., from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Traffic delays are expected along the route during the duration of the full marathon. Runners will be active along the Victoria Park Roadway, Queen Elizabeth Dr., Charlotte Dr., Edinburgh Dr., Brittany Dr., Maplewood Cres., Moreau Dr., Spruce St., North Queen Elizabeth Dr., Belvedere Ave., Royalty Junction Rd., Malpeque Rd., University Ave., and Great George St.

In addition to street closures, there will be no parking in the following areas on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 12:00 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. (or until the event conclusion):
• Grafton St., between Church St. and Queen St.
• Prince St. from Euston St. to King St.
• Great George St., between Grafton St. and Fitzroy St.
• Kent St., between Queen St. and Great George St.

Event organizers have requested that marathon participants not park close to churches in downtown Charlottetown on Sunday morning to reserve parking spots for residents attending service.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead and use caution when travelling throughout the city during the weekend.
