City Announces Signature Charlottetown Christmas Festival Events

Residents are invited to mark their calendars with the City of Charlottetown’s lineup of festive events including the Charlottetown Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade, and the return of the Holiday Projection on the Plaza and Holiday Home Decorating Contest.

Event-specific announcements with additional details will be posted on the City's social media channels, X (formerly Twitter) at @ChtownPE and Facebook at @CityofCharlottetown, and the City's website in the coming weeks.

Christmas Tree Lighting
Date: Friday, Nov. 24, 2023
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts, Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza, Grafton Street
Details: Featuring live performances by award-winning Island artists, refreshments, and a pyrotechnic display. A candlelight promenade will depart from Founders' Food Hall & Market at 6:15 p.m., with the official Tree Lighting ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Charlottetown Christmas Parade
Date: Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023
Time: 5 p.m.
Details: The Charlottetown Christmas Parade returns to the capital city on Nov. 25! For full information, including details on the parade route, donations of non-perishable food items, and the collection of letters to Santa along the route, visit charlottetown.ca/parade or call (902) 566-5548.

A reminder that float applications are being accepted until tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 15 for community group participation in the parade. Entries must fall within the following categories: float, walking group, or band. There is no entry fee to participate. Application forms are available online or in person at City Hall, 199 Queen St.

Holiday Projection on the Plaza
Date: Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, to Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024
Time: Nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (Note: on Nov. 24 the show will begin after the tree lighting)
Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts, Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza, Grafton Street
Details: The animated, holiday-themed projection and music show will bring the Grafton Street façade of the Confederation Centre of the Arts to life again this year. Holiday Projection on the Plaza is a project of the City of Charlottetown in partnership with the Confederation Centre of the Arts and the Confederation Court Mall and is proudly supported by the PEI Events Innovation Fund and Charlottetown Special Events Reserve Fund.

Holiday Home Decorating Contest
Date: Registration is open until Monday, Dec. 4, 2023
Details: Get out the Christmas decorations! The home decorating contest is the perfect time to show off your holiday cheer with festive decorations on the exterior of your home or property. Entries will be judged the week of Dec. 11 on the following criteria: use of natural materials, use of lighting, creativity, and overall design. Capital New Year
Date: Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023
Location: Founders' Food Hall & Market, 6 Prince St.
Details: Celebrate New Year's Eve with free, family-friendly activities including live music, skating, a photo booth, an art activity, giveaways, and fireworks display at 7 p.m. Capital New Year is a partnership between the City of Charlottetown and Founders' Food Hall & Market.
