Call for Artists: Rooted in Art

Call for Artists: Rooted in Art
Posted on 07/21/2025
The City of Charlottetown is accepting applications for the annual Rooted in Art program and invites Island artists, from budding creatives to seasoned professionals, to create temporary art installations inspired by Charlottetown’s trees.

This year, the City is inviting ideas for installations with a focus on culture and heritage, and the connections between trees, people and places. Applicants are asked to demonstrate traditional or cultural art forms directly through their chosen media, to use their art to tell a story or reflect their culture, or to explore and interpret Charlottetown’s history through their installation. Four artists will be selected to create art installations on or around a City tree, which will be showcased for three weeks starting in September 2025.

Since its inception in 2020, Rooted in Art has celebrated the vital role trees play in the urban environment. From the aesthetic beauty to the essential services trees provide, including air purification, wind blocking, noise buffering and stormwater management, this initiative seeks to deepen the community’s connection with nature and highlight the importance of the urban forest.

Each artist is eligible to submit one application. Applications can be sent via email to [email protected] or delivered to City Hall, located at 199 Queen Street. The deadline for applications is Monday, August 18, 2025, at 4 p.m.

Join us in celebrating the culture and heritage of Charlottetown, along with the beauty and importance of Charlottetown’s trees through the power of art. For more information and application details, please visit charlottetown.ca/roots.
