City Rescheduling Fireworks for Tonight, Weather Permitting
Posted on 07/02/2025
The City has rescheduled its Canada Day fireworks display to tonight, weather permitting, after they were cancelled last night due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Each year, our Canada Day celebrations are capped off by the City’s signature fireworks show. The City understands and shares the disappointment residents and visitors alike felt with the cancellation of last night’s fireworks. The decision to cancel was made not long before the scheduled start time of 10 p.m. due to wind gusts and the direction of these gusts which posed a safety risk to the public, event staff and fireworks crew.
The decision was not made lightly. Crews monitor the weather throughout the evening, which can change quickly. This was the case last night, especially on the barge on the water from where the fireworks would have been launched. The City apologizes for any inconvenience, but in the end, public safety was the top priority for everyone involved.
The City has rescheduled the fireworks for this evening, again starting at 10 p.m.
The special Canada Day shuttle buses will not be available tonight; however regular transit routes will be operating. The noise-cancelling headphones available for loan to individuals with sensory sensitivities will be available beginning at 9 p.m. behind the Victoria Park cultural pavilion.
Victoria Park Roadway and Victoria Park Driveway (road to the tennis courts) will be closed from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will be no parking at these locations.
In the event there are any changes to plans tonight, the City will provide information through our social media channels as well as advisories to media partners to give everyone as much notice as possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
