T3 Transit Route 1 Change – Northbound Service Discontinued at Indigo/GoodLife Stop on University Avenue
The City of Charlottetown advises T3 Transit riders that, effective Jan. 19, 2026, Route 1 buses will no longer serve the northbound Indigo/GoodLife stop on University Avenue.
This change affects northbound Route 1 buses travelling uphill toward UPEI and Royalty Crossing Mall. Service will continue at the southbound Indigo/GoodLife stop, serving passengers travelling downhill toward downtown.
This change is required due to increased traffic volumes and operational challenges with buses crossing active lanes of traffic to enter and exit the Indigo area without traffic signals.
Passengers may use the following alternatives:
1. Nassau Street/University Avenue (northbound) - This is the closest option to GoodLife Fitness, approximately a two-to-three-minute walk.
2. Former Blaze Pizza stop (UPEI, just north of Belvedere Avenue) – This is the closest option to Atlantic Superstore, approximately a three-to-five-minute walk.
3. Southbound Indigo/GoodLife stop (loop option) – Passengers departing the Indigo area may board at the southbound stop and remain on the bus as it loops and returns northbound. Passengers arriving at Indigo on a northbound trip may also remain on the bus as it loops and returns southbound. The additional loop adds approximately eight minutes to the trip in either direction and may be preferable for riders who wish to minimize walking distance. Passengers using the loop option should advise the driver when boarding to confirm whether they can remain on the same bus or if a transfer is required at Royalty Crossing Mall or the Confederation Centre.
As part of the University Avenue Redevelopment, the City plans to install traffic signals and a pedestrian crossing at the Indigo/RCMP intersection, along with a bus shelter on the opposite side of University Avenue. Once these improvements are complete, northbound bus service is expected to resume at this location. Detailed design and construction are planned for 2027, pending federal land-use approval, stakeholder negotiations and City Council approval.
